About Me

Hi there! I’m Sarah C., a.k.a. the straying one. My love for travel and blogging began when I embarked on my university exchange to Seoul in 2010

Then, I began blogging so my friends and family back home could stay up-to-date on my travels. As a fresh-eyed university student, I wasn’t expecting my small Blogspot blog to gain any traction. Still, it somehow caught the eye of the Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO) and I was sent packing on my first-ever overseas familiarisation trip, that very same year after I returned home from my exchange.

Over the years as I embarked on a corporate career, life got increasingly hectic and I stopped blogging, but the love for writing and travelling never stopped.

Sabbatical not once, but twice

On travel: I embarked on a 14-month career sabbatical between 2017 and 2018 and travelled to countries such as Thailand, Nepal, Greece, Japan, and Taiwan.

It was the first time in my life I deliberately chose to travel slower with nary a plan in sight and one of the most liberating seasons in my life. During this time I also explored work exchanges (via HelpX) and volunteering overseas.

They say sabbaticals are addictive, and they were right.

I was fortunate to have gotten the chance to embark on a working holiday to New Zealand at the ripe old age of 33 (Most Singaporeans lose the chance by 30!), thanks or no thanks to Covid, and spent eight months living and working on a stunning island near Auckland.

Back to blogging

On writing: It’s been nearly a decade since I’ve blogged properly, I’ve decided to blow those cobwebs aside and start chronicling my travels, yet again — for those who’ve asked about my trips, but mainly for myself to remember, years on.

I’m currently a lifestyle writer, something that I’ve always wanted to do for the longest time, and I’m lucky that my job takes me to (some) places, but as with most working adults, I do have a limited number of annual leave days.

I’ll still do recaps of my past trips when time allows, but you’ll see that my current travel style is more of a mix of maximising public holidays, and weekends, and working remotely.

If that interests you, then thanks for sticking around, and feel free to follow me on Instagram at @saraaahsays for more of my day-to-day musings, or @straywithsarah for more short-form travel content.
